My artwork have been, so far, the result of everyday life experiences, and constantly revisit what I have grown to refer to as “protective spaces”: nurturing, purposeful environments such as nests, or elements that help to create these spaces such as fences or arched doorways. These are spaces that afford someone a sense of security. I find the weathered surfaces of old barns, or the teetering angles of a fallen fence intriguing. From here the artwork begins to develop. Whether it be a painting that is then quilted, or a sculptural basket or porcelain cup, the finished pieces communicate similar messages.
